This week's Tune for Tuesday, "Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?" as performed by Bing Crosby, is a powerful number considered by many to be the theme of a sad point in history, yet it remains timeless and relevant in far too many ways. I first heard this piece in a history class ten years ago, back-to-back with a song seen as a theme for the Roaring Twenties. This class was led by the same teacher who introduced me to the idea of Tune for Tuesday and inspired me to do my own take on the concept. For me to select and share it through said Tune for Tuesdays has been a long time coming, and after unexpectedly hearing the anthem of The Great Depression at Lyrics & Lyricists last week, realizing within days that I knew the whole song by heart, and deciding to perform it myself at an open mic this coming, I decided the time had finally come to showcase this incredible classic.
